Alberto Pisoni is director of control systems at General Motors Global Propulsion Systems. In his current role, he has global responsibility for diesel control systems for GM applications worldwide and leads a team located in Torino, Italy. Alberto was born in Torino in 1966 and studied electronic engineering at Politecnico di Torino. He started his career in Centro Ricerche FIAT in 1993 and he was part of the team that developed the first diesel common rail system for passenger cars (Alfa Romeo, 1997) and later led controls activities for the FIAT multiair system. Alberto joined General Motors in 2006 as diesel controls chief engineer and was responsible for the introduction of the first diesel in-house control system for GM (D1, 2010). In 2011- 12, he had an international assignment in Detroit, USA where he was responsible for gasoline and automatic transmission controllers. Prior to his current position in 2013-14, he was the manager of the diesel engine advanced team in Torino.

Graduated from the ESTACA Engineer school in Paris, Marc Pajon began his career at Bertrand Faure Automobile, a seating supplier that became FAURECIA, as scientific calculation CAE manager. He supported Faurecia’s development as regulation, CAE and testing manager, safety project manager and master safety expert. After a stint at INSEAD, he managed the product planning and marketing for the automotive seating business group, then innovation and partnerships before joining Renault in 2007. He was then Director of Advanced Projects for the Life on board, safety and dynamic performance domains. He became then VP Vehicle Engineering Innovation in the Renault - Nissan alliance. In 2015 he was appointed Managing Director of GIE S2A (Renault Aero-Acoustic Acoustic Wind Tunnels - PSA - CNAM). Marc PAJON is today the “Expert Leader Testing & Measurement Technologies” for the Renault Group. He is responsible for the Alliance’s autonomous vehicle validation strategy.

Karim Yahia graduated from Arts et Métiers Engineering High School in France. In the first part of his career, he worked in the field of automotive passive safety development. First with Autoliv Company, with the development of airbag and ECU for overseas projects (India, Malaysia, Australia), and then with PSA as a team leader managing the technical policy and the architecture of airbags and seatbelts for all new projects. His main realisation is the development of passenger airbags on the ceiling for Citroen C4 Cactus and development of airbags and seat belts for the Peugeot 308, car of the year 2014. Since 2010, he evolved his career from passive to active safety. Currently, Karim Yahia is a specialist in ADAS and autonomous vehicle regulations for PSA Group. He participates as an OICA member (International Organization of Car manufacturers) to United Nation Working groups for ADAS System.

Dr. Albrecht Irion has a degree in technical cybernetics from the University of Stuttgart and the University of Wisconsin in Madison, WI. His first position was at Robert Bosch GmbH in the pre-development for car applications, with a focus on knowledge-based systems and fuzzy control. He graduated as a Dr.-Ing. on a control systems topic in the area of anti-log braking systems. He has also had several assignments in function and system development of active safety systems (ABS, ASR, ESP) and driver assistance systems (radar, video, ultrasonic). He is responsible for the system-/SW-development of parking & maneuvering assistance, with a focus on ultrasonic sensors, but also for combined systems e.g. with near range camera.

Ali has 20 years of experience in the semiconductor industry specialising in AI, video, and vision processors design. He is currently the director of AI strategy and principal for NXP’s Autonomous Driving Lab, working on foresight for NXP’s Vision, Deep Learning, and AI solutions for autonomous systems. Prior to joining NXP’s Automotive Microcontrollers and Processors unit, Ali was VP of engineering for CogniVue Corp. leading the R&D teams delivering vision SoC solutions and the APEX Image Cognition Processor IP core. Dr. Vjekoslav Matic is the director of application and system engineering for automated driving sensors at the Automotive Division of Infineon Technologies. He heads an engineering team responsible for system & semiconductor product definition and customer design-in support for Radar, LIDAR, and Time-of-Flight sensors in automotive, consumer, and industrial applications, including signal processing and software development.

Before that, he served as head of application engineering for Tire Pressure Monitoring and Wireless Control product lines for five years and as the program manager for automotive Remote Keyless Entry RF-CMOS transmitters, receivers, and transceivers for 7 years. His technical background in system engineering, digital satellite communications, and signal processing on mixed-signal automotive ASICs was developed, thanks to four years spent at Dialog Semiconductor and six years at Joanneum Research in Graz, which provides him with inspiring ideas. Dr Matic holds an MS degree in electrical engineering from the University of Zagreb, Croatia, and a PhD from Graz University of Technology, Austria.

Mr. Paul Liu is senior manager of GPU Software at NVIDIA and is currently developing automotive products. He has held leadership and executive positions at SiRF, Trimble Navigation, Applied Micro, Tula, and Samsung Electronics. He has published papers in industry publications and made presentations at the SAE World Congress and other events. Paul owns a commercial nut farm, where he tests his development of autonomous farming equipment. He also mentors robotics and statistics students in middle and high school. As well as being a member of the Society of Automotive Engineers, the Project Management Institute, and the Association of Professional Engineers of British Columbia, Paul holds a BSc. in electrical engineering from the University.

Dr. Radislav Potyrailo is a principal scientist at GE Global Research in Niskayuna, New York, leading the growth of industrial, wireless, wearable, and harsh environment sensors for GE applications. He holds an optoelectronics degree from Kiev Polytechnic Institute and a PhD in analytical chemistry from Indiana University. His research interests are in the areas of materials with multi-response mechanisms to ambient environments, design, and excitation of physical transducers, univariate, and multivariate data analytics, and system engineering of microanalytical instrumentation. He has developed sensing technologies for GE Transportation, Energy, Healthcare, Water, Security, Corporate Environmental, Consumer & Industrial, and other GE businesses. Radislav has led multiple programs on inventing new sensing systems and bringing them from lab feasibility studies to field validation and to commercialisation. Radislav has been serving as the GE Principal Investigator on U.S. Government programs funded by AFRL, DARPA, DHS, NETL, NIH, NIOSH, and TSWG. Radislav delivered 80+ invited lectures and 10 keynote/plenary lectures at national and international meetings and has 115+ granted U.S. patents and 150+ publications.

He has worked as a researcher in the military field, as a developer of embedded systems and then as a consultant in software quality for large industrial groups. He is a Valeo Technical Schools and engineering trainer and is a Valeo senior expert. He is also the author of the book, Logiciels embarqués Viser l’excellence dans le développement, published by ENI, which is also available in English and an augmented edition under the title, Embedded Software - Striving for Excellence in Development.

In addition Carloandrea is leading author of the Refrigeration, Air Conditioning and Heat Pumps Technical Options Committee (RTOC) of the United Nations Environmental Programme (UNEP) and author of several international patents papers in the domain of thermal systems and fuel consumption and CO2 emission reduction.

Today Mr. Kolaric works as head of the department for “Functional Materials” at the Fraunhofer- Institute for Manufacturing Engineering and Automation IPA in Stuttgart, Germany and co-director Fraunhofer Project Center for Electroactive Polymer AIST, Kansai (Japan). After he graduated from the University of Applied Sciences in Esslingen in the field of mechatronics, he earned his first work experience in an automotive environment before joining the Fraunhofer- TEG as a research assistant. In his first years at Fraunhofer, he worked in the field of construction and methodical test planning as well as the execution. In a short time, he qualified for tasks and duties with higher responsibility. In the field of nanoscaled carbon such as CNT and Graphene, Mr. Kolaric has done important pioneering work and opened up this future technology for the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft.

Dr. Stephen Jones CEng, AT

Graduated in 1996 with a PhD in science from Cambridge University. He started his career at Ford UK in diesel manufacturing, then gasoline calibration, and finally CAE. He then moved to Prodrive as lead engineer gasoline calibration. He started at LuK in transmission controls in 2001. He moved to LuK Germany to lead simulation techniques, specifically Dual Mass Flywheel damper development and their electronic integration into powertrains. In 2008 he began working at AVL Austria, initially leading production controls, then hybrid and system simulation, and is now principal product systems manager. He is a chartered mechanical engineer and member of the IMechE. He has acquired and lead research on advanced and production projects for customers worldwide. Numerous published papers covering ADAS, predictive energy management, engine controls, hybrids, torsional vibration dampers, functional safety, and thermodynamics. He has been awarded
various patents in different fields.

Dr. Richard Dixon, DE

Richard Dixon is a principal analyst for MEMS and author of more than 50 MEMS-related consulting and market research studies. He is a world-renowned expert on automotive MEMS and magnetic sensors used in safety, powertrain, and body applications. Along with supporting the overall activities of the MEMS and sensors group, his responsibilities include the development of databases that forecast the markets for more than 20 types of silicon-based sensors in more than 100 automotive applications. In addition, he has supported organisations with future scenarios for sensors in cars and has supported many custom projects for companies in the automotive supply chain. In his prior post at WTC, Dixon was a senior MEMS analyst where he led research on physical sensors and was the co-author of the NEXUS Task Force Report for MEMS and Microsystems 2005-2009. He has also led commercialisation and road-mapping activities on European Commission-funded technology projects, including detailed MEMS chip cost analysis studies. Dixon worked previously as a journalist in the compound semiconductor industry and has years of experience as a technology transfer professional at RTI International, where he provided business and market intelligence for early-stage technologies. Dixon graduated from North Kent University with a degree in materials science and earned a doctorate from Surrey University in semi-conductor characterisation. He speaks English and German.

Harri Santamala, FI

Harri Santamala, “Mr. Robobus”, is the CEO and co-founder of Sensible 4 - a company pioneering with all-season autonomous driving technologies. Harri is leading the company in development of market entry enabling software for autonomous driving. Prior to Sensible 4, he was among the first to take automated buses to open-road conditions in 2016. This happened in Finland through the SOHJOA project, as well as building the whole Finnish road automation ecosystem. He is now determined to stabilize Finland’s international role in the forming of the market. Harri is a proactive and persistent individual, who is motivated by challenging current businesses and working towards the disruption in traffic. He is an active speaker and well connected internationally within the industry. He has a deep know-how in high level automotive systems, integration, and vehicle development. Before founding Sensible 4, Harri has been actively working towards enabling AVs in Finland as well as developing electric vehicles and their systems. Harri obtained his BSc. in automotive engineering in 2006 and his MSc. in machine design from Aalto University in 2010.

Alejandro is the inventor of 10 patents related with vehicular guidance and positioning for all modes of transportation. Luis Serrano is a technical marketing manager ADAS & GNSS at STMicroelectronics Munich. He has an engineering degree from University of Lisbon, Portugal, and a PhD in GNSS from the University of New Brunswick, Canada. He has been in the GNSS precise positioning market for the last 10 years, working in leading companies such as EADS, Trimble, and BMW, developing algorithms for surveying and machine guidance, integrity studies, and in the last years focusing on GNSS multi-sensor localization for ADAS and autonomous driving. Mr. Serrano has authored several ION/IEEE articles and holds a patent in satellite signal authentication.
